What is a wheelchair van rental service?A wheelchair van rental service is a privately hired service for transport of an individual in a wheelchair. The passenger can be wheeled directly into the van and remain in their wheelchair during the ride.

What are the benefits of renting a wheelchair van?You can have peace of mind knowing that you or your loved one has a safe, accessible transportation option for trips to the doctor, an outing, or a medical discharge. We offer a variety of ride options - one way, roundtrip, or multiple stop options. Our driver will ensure proper loading into the vehicle and will assist door to door.

What types of wheelchair transport rides do you offer?We offer a variety of ride options - one way, roundtrip, or multiple stop options, with or without wait.

Can someone ride along during the transfer?We know how important it is to travel with a caregiver, a friend, or another member of the family. We can easily, and are happy to, accommodate one extra adult passenger.

What size wheelchair can fit inside your transport van?Standard manual or power wheelchairs with a maximum width of 26 inches are a good fit in our vans. (measured to the outside of rear wheels) Standard manual or power wheelchairs with a maximum length of 42 inches from the foot rests to the back of the rear wheels.

Do you only transport those in wheelchairs?We are happy to provide service to anyone, but it would be most beneficial for those needing wheelchair transport, those with walkers or mobility challenges.

Are your drivers background checked?Handy Transit drivers are reliable and strive to be known for the passenger-focused service they deliver. They are professionally qualified, CPR & First Aid certified, and well-trained with wheelchairs and special needs mobility devices.

How far in advance do I need to reserve a transport?At least 24-hrs in advance, but if our schedule is open we can accommodate most requests within a few hours. We do recommend rides to be booked in advance if possible since we book on a first come first served basis.

What type of payments are accepted for the services?Our services are payable by credit card.

May I leave a tip for the driver?Absolutely! Feel free to tip your driver with cash if you had a wonderful experience. We appreciate your thoughtfulness!

How much do you charge for wheelchair transport?We charge by the hour to make things simpler. If within the local area, we charge $50 for a 30 minute minimum. After the first 30 minutes, we charge $1.67/per minute. This equates to $100/hr. If within the extended area, we charge $125 for a 60 minute minimum then $1.67/per minute after that. We will wait for you at your appointment and be ready to return you home when your visit is complete. If you are requesting wheelchair transport on a weekend or holiday, we charge $125 for a 60 minute minimum. Can the services be covered by Medicare or Medicaid?We provide non-emergency rides only, on a private pay basis.

Can underage passengers ride with Handy Transit?We welcome passengers under the age of 18. Each passenger will need to be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Do you have bariatric equipment?We have the ability to provide safe, comfortable transport up to 350 lbs.

Do you allow service dogs?Service dogs are also welcome but will need to be properly secured to ensure a safe ride for everyone.

How do you secure the wheelchair in the van?Our vans are equipped with a self-locking tie-down system which secures the wheelchair passenger for a safe and comfortable ride.

Can you do a ride share?Yes! We would be more than happy to transport you and multiple friends. We can comfortably seat 3-4 in our vehicle without a wheelchair or 1 person + 1 wheelchair. We can even assist with billing you separately. Request a ride or give us a call for more assistance!
